Zhang Xiaogang 张晓刚 was born in Kunming, Yunnan Province China. |
|
Very young, his mother taught him to draw. |
|
|
1972 |
His years of work on the farm did'nt affect his passion for Art.. |
|
1977 |
He had to wait for the restoration of the entrance exam at the Sichuan Academy |
| of Fine Arts, to begin his studies ( oil painting department ). | |
|
1982 |
He graduated from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, in Chongqing. |
|
1985 |
After a depressive episode, he joined the New Wave movement. |
|
1986 |
He formed the group Art of South-West, 西南群体 with Mao Xuhui, Pan Dehei, |
|
Ye Yongqing.Thirty other artists will join them. |
|
|
1993 |
He painted a series of portraits in black and white : Bloodlines : Big Family |
|
which made him famous. |
|
|
1999 |
He left Beijing to Yunnan where he settled permanently. |
|
He has three studios, one in Beijing, one in Yunnan and one in Chengdu. |
