Huang Rui 黄锐 was born in Beijing China. |

1968 |
He worked as a farmer in Inner Mongolia. |
|
1975 |
He returned to Beijing and worked in a leather factory. |
|
|
He befriended Ma Desheng, self-taught artist like him. |
|
Both decided to found the group Xingxing, Stars,* first vanguard artistic |
|
|
|
movement in China. |
|
1978 |
He published the literary magazine Jintian 今天 for three years. |
|
1979 |
He participated in the first unauthorised exhibition on the fence of the park |
|
|
adjoigning the National Museum of Beijing. |
|
|
The exhibition was soon repressed by the police. |
|
1980 |
The group was given the right to expose in the Huafangzai pavilion. |
|
|
|
|
1984 /2000 |
He settled in Tokyo, Japan. |
|
He created large canvases and calligraphic installations. |
|
|
2001 |
He moved to China. |
|
2002 |
He was instrumental in founding the art district ( Factory 798 ) in Beijing. |
|
In his series Chai na / China, he showed his reaction in front of the destructions of |
|
| some Beijing neighborhoods, by linking the English word with Chinese characters | |
| meaning demolition and here. | |
|
2004 |
He created the D.I.A.F ( Dashanzi International Art Festival ) . |
|
|
He lives and works as artist and curator in Beijing China. |
|
