biography

1973

Wang Yu was born in Xuzhou,  a town in the North-East of Jiangsu province, in China ,

on the 9th June.

Her father  : Sun Ke Chen is headmaster of a primary school.

Her mother  : Wang Zhong Ying is a primary school teacher.

When she was small, if she was not playing with her two older sisters, Yu spent her free-time

drawing.

.

She went to primary school then she went to secondary school.

1989

Her ambition was to become an artist or an architect.

1991

She made her choice. She went to the Institut of Fine Arts of Nanjing for four years, studying

in the Western Art Department as she was particularly interested in Western Art.

She realized that Art is more than anything about research.

After the Chinese artists Zhang Daqian 张大千 1899-1983, Cai Guo-Qiang 蔡国强 1957-, she was

inspired not only by the Impressionnists, but also by Léonardo de Vinci 1452-1519,

Michel-Angelo 1475-1564, Henri Matisse 1869-1954, and Pablo Picasso 1881-1973.

1994

She took part in the 12th exhibition of Chinese engraving, in the Fine Arts Museum of Shenzhen.

1995

She got her degree in Nanjing and her work was shown in the gallery of the Fine Arts Institute.

1996

She continued studying Art.

To everyone's surprise, Yu decided to change her surname and take her mother's surname :

Wang.

1998

Her works was shown in Nanjing, at the Jiangsu Museum, for the first Fine Arts Festival

of Jiangsu.

1999

She got a master's degree in Fine Arts at the Nanjing Institute of Art, specilised in engraving.

She then taught at the Institute of Fine Arts of Shanghai.

2001

Wang Yu always knew that she could not live in China : her inspiration was elsewhere.

She was drawn towards France.

She left her job and went to Paris, without beeing able to speak the language.

She learnt French at the Paris 3 University, went to museums and continued her artistic journey.

à propos

 Wang Yu

The body, that's all. No artifice. Dazzling, sometimes dazzled. In bright light.
Limited means. No frills : no extras.

Head without body or body without head, nothing but skin tones.

Acrylic gel. Neither drawn, nor painted. Tingling.
Breast resting or body resting on a delicate white sheet.

Nude. Alive. Magnified. Magnificient !
